The madman of Táliga

Abstract

On March 9, 1988, the newspaper ABC de Sevilla published an article by Antonio Burgos regarding an incident that occurred in Táliga. According to the Governing Board, the article showed a serious lack of respect toward psychiatric patients and expressed an attitude of arrogant disregard for new care approaches alternative to the asylum.

We considered that the tone, content, and stance represented by the article (fortunately, the exclusive product of a single sane mind) obliged us to take a public position in favor of the respect that psychiatric patients, as full citizens, deserve.

Below, we reproduce the article and the note sent by the Governing Board of our Association to the media.
