Due to the complexity of family conflicts the mediator is required to use specific techniques which may not be effective if they are not based on a comprehensive model of conflict and a theory of change. When mediation is understood as a process for the building of a cooperative space, conflict is accepted more in terms of transformation than of resolution. The figure of the mediator is thus simply contemplated as another element in the process of construction of the new reality. The techniques and relationship with the parties will clearly be influenced by this framework.
