Abstract

This was the title of the area’s keynote presentation, prepared by the Technical Committee and structured into six sections:

1. Introduction.

2. Overview of recent history.

3. Emergence of the Professional Association and legal regulation.

4. Employment situation and conditions of professional practice.

5. Regulation of treatment: reports and certificates.

6. Preliminary draft code of ethics.

The first five sections are broadly summarised, while the sixth—given its importance—is reserved for more detailed treatment.
