La estima corporal y la orientación sexual: diferencias entre la población trans y la población general

Introducción: Diversos factores como la identidad de género y la orientación sexual pueden influir en la imagen corporal. Sin embargo, la investigación sobre la relación entre pertenecer al colectivo transgénero no binario (TGNB), la orientación sexual y su influencia en la imagen corporal ha sido escasa. El objetivo es explorar cómo influye en la estima corporal la identidad de género y la orientación sexual en la población TGNB y la población general. Método: Este estudio transversal compara la estima corporal de un grupo de la Unidad de Intersexualidad y Transexualidad de Madrid (UIT) (n=149) con dos grupos: un grupo universitario (n=184) y un grupo encuestado on-line (n=86). Resultados: el grupo de la UIT refiere menor estima corporal que los grupos de la población general. La orientación sexual tiene poca influencia en la estima corporal excepto en la percepción de atractivo sexual de las mujeres. Los tratamientos afirmativos mejoran la estima corporal de las mujeres TGNB, pero no la de los hombres. Discusión: las personas TGNB experimentan menor estima corporal que las personas de la población general, aunque el tratamiento afirmativo puede mejorar su imagen corporal. Entender las diferencias según género y orientación sexual permite un acompañamiento psicológico individualizado.
