The present study seeks to integrate the Self-efficacy constructinto a model of diagnostic of the Internal Work Motivation. Starting from a global evaluation of Hackman and Oldham's classic motivational model, the Self-efficacy construct is introduced and evaluated as a moderator variable between Work Complexity and Worker Internal Motivation variables. First, the metric properties of the variables used were proved. Second, different moderator effects were tested in a sample of 622 workers (from 9 different organisations) by means of the Moderator Median Split Analysis from Jaccard,Turrisi, and Wan.
The results showed that both Growth Need Strength and Self-efficacy presented significant moderator effects. Moreover, the combined effect of these variables was bigger than the effect of each variable individually, We concluded that it is relevant to incorporate the Self-efficacy construct to the pattern of motivational diagnosis of the Task Characteristics Model.
