Self-efficacy and organizational performance criteria

Abstract

Self-efficacy is a motivational variable that contributes to the effort invested in the achievement of personal goals. Achievement of these goals can have important consequences for productivity in organizations. Meta-analyses of the relationships between self-efficacy and several work behaviors usually employed as organizational performance mesures were conducted. Self-efficacy correlated positively with supervisors' outcome self-evaluations (validity =0.39), with salary and results (validity = 0.25) and satisfaction (validity = 0.26); and negatively with absentecism and turnover (validity = -0.18). Implications of these results are discussed and future lines of research are suggested.
